"I am a Department of Defense Scholar and a recent Air Force Research Laboratory intern. My research involved synthetic biology and engineering applications. I transitioned from being an intern to an actual federal employee during the last week of my internship, but I returned back to school to complete my senior year of college. My time in Rome, NY was lovely, but that lab was not best equipped for my field of work (biology). Fortunately, I was able to adapt, collaborate and learn new skills from other interns and employees. I highly recommend the AFRL."
"Friendly environment. Flexible work hours."
"Very nice working environment."
"The Air Force Research Laboratory scientist and engineer environment is very unique. Government laboratories are complex organizations. Advantages are job security, sense of importance, and a wide variety of opportunities. Some disadvantages are dealing with bureaucracy and recently the wild budget environment."
"The program was great, but the red tape and lack of high administration understanding of what R&D means was awful."
"overall, very good...I miss it."
