AEON provides English language classes for adults, both in classroom settings and online. The company is headquartered in Okayama, Japan. Currently, the corporation provides English language instruction to over 100,000 students at 300 branch schools located throughout Japan. Through its subsidiary AEON Amity, the corporation also provides English language classes for students up to the age of 18.

There is a huge market for English language schools in Japan since many Japanese firms, particularly those with a large international clientele, provide English classes for employees. AEON Corporation provides teachers with teaching plans and a set curriculum that they are expected to follow closely.

AEON was founded in 1989 by Kiyoshi Aki. Previously, Aki was one of the co-founders of the AMVIC company, which also focused on foreign language studies. AEON Corporation should not be confused with the AEON Group, one of Japan's leading providers of financial and retailing services.

AEON employs approximately 3,000 English teachers and administrative staff. Many of the English teachers the school hires come from the United States. The application to become an English teacher is a lengthy process, and employment is contingent upon receiving a Certificate of Eligibility that will enable applicants to apply for a work visa. Teachers earn a salary plus a bonus of ¥65,000 for the successful completion of a one-year contract.
