Spooky Culture: 5 Companies that Love Halloween

Posted October 31, 2012

Halloween is the perfect excuse for coworkers in offices across the nation to bond -- all while dressed in silly, spooky or trendy costumes!

Here at CareerBliss HQ, we love everything about Halloween: the decorations, our Jason dummy, Kill Bill-themed group costumes, family fun and tons and tons of candy.

We went on the search for like-minded companies that share our passion for Halloween.

Check them out:

Health Advocate Inc.

Health Advocate is a company based in Plymouth Meeting, Penn., that helps consumers navigate the healthcare system. Come Halloween season  each year they hold a company-wide costume contest.

That's more than 500 costumed employees -- we love it!

“In fact, the founders at Health Advocate consider Halloween a national holiday,” says Rhonda L. Lipschutz, a public relations rep for Health Advocates.

Each department gets together and decides on a theme for the costume contest.

“Last year, my communications department dressed as the cast of True Blood,” Lipschutz says.

The design dept. dressed as characters from Batman (pictured above). IT came as the Pac-Mac Characters. A+ for creativity and camaraderie!

Houston-based Internet marketing agency TopSpot celebrates Halloween with two contests: a costume contest and a food contest. Folks vote on their favorite costume by a secret ballot and the food contest is decided by a set of panel judges who grade entrants on taste, presentation and creativity (how legit!).  They also invite employees’ children to come and trick or treat at the cubicles.

PriceGrabber.com goes all out for its annual Halloween party — including a DJ, catered food, desserts, decorations and all that Halloween jazz.

“In short, everyone has a wonderful time and enjoys getting to know their colleagues better in a fun and casual environment,” says Sharon Banfield, director of public relations and communications at PriceGrabber.

Great Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge is the Great Wolf Resort’s largest family of indoor waterparks, operating 11 resorts in North America. Employees of Great Wolf Lodge’s corporate office in Madison, Wis., work hard and play hard — Halloween is a great example.

On the day before Halloween, the Great Wolf gang partakes in cookie decorating, mini pumpkin decorating (check out adorable Cole and Grace Evans above ), costume contest and classic family Halloween movies throughout the afternoon and early evening!

“We are a company for families, and we are run by families,” says CEO Kim Schaefer.

So, it’s not a surprise that their corporate Halloween party welcomes their employees and their families!

Phelps is an advertising agency that does Halloween big because it’s part of their culture of fun and creativity!

“Creativity is a strong root of our culture -- Halloween costumes are a great exercise in creativity,” says Roxana Janka, PR specialist at the Phelps Agency.

They love integrating costumes with their company culture.

“We get to see a different side of the people we work with every day,” Janka says.
