"It's a good, solid workplace, but you've got to watch your back."
What do you like about working at 3M?
"There were a lot of career opportunities in different areas and a lot of resources not present in smaller companies."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"You have two choices for success: Quickly learn who the right people are and become their friends, or keep your head down, do your work well, and hope for the best. The atmosphere might be a lot different at the plant level than I saw at corporate HQ, so keep that in mind."
What don't you like about working at 3M?
"Nepotism and office politics. Favoritism. It's a large enough company that it has its own family and all the social issues that come with that."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Hire a larger percentage of upper management from outside the company. Institute better / more thorough job training. Support certification and licensing in industry-recognized institutions like ISM. Getting such licensing or certification will tie into job training. Support outside education (and actually support it - I was told for years that there might be funding available for education, but it never was)."
