Personal Trainer

What do you like about working at 24 Hour Fitness?

"My immediate associates are generally good people."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If hired to be full-time, then demand full-time hours or contact the labor commissioner. The HR department is useless and doesn't care! Work somewhere else or work out of a private training gym. Until this company changes its treatment of trainers, you will be dealing with all of the above issues mentioned."

What don't you like about working at 24 Hour Fitness?

"Management does not listen to the concerns of trainers. They change requirements too often, they violate the wage labor laws for full-time trainers, and they have numerous class action labor violation litigations ongoing. There is high turnover of trainers. The HR department doesn't react to complaints concerning labor law violations."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Practice fair labor law, listen to your trainers, and do not micromanage trainers. Training is a service, not a product sales position for supplements! Motivate and encourage longevity, and don't hire too many trainers in any one club."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Good luck. The company is run by an investment firm that strips companies down to the bones and sells them at a high profit. Anyone is replaceable."

What don't you like about working at 24 Hour Fitness?

"I was recently laid off and I received a conference call to inform me of this. I had an hour to pack up all of my items and leave. The severance package I received was very poor and it took a month and a half to receive it. I was a peek performer and was laid off due to other managers who had 18 and 15 years of time in the company. From what I hear my position was eliminated and they gave my responsibility to a lead technician. Basically they eliminated us and realized that the responsibility needs to fall onto someone with a junior title."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"My suggestion would be to take care of your own!!! I lost my job and my home within two months. Now I am looking for employment and there is nothing. I also have a one-year-old who does not have insurance. I gave everything to this company and I was thrown out like a piece of garbage. I hope they learn their lesson the hard way."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I was the #1- #3 MM/sales by the numbers. I did everything by the book and worked 60 hours a week. When I was assistant manager, I worked 80 hours a week - it's on file. I was the only rep at the Coit and Campbell Club at that time with a non-existing CM. They need to keep the reps. MM...CM that truly care. Get rid of the games and politics."
