"WGU was a great place to work. I worked there for almost 8 years and loved it. The skills and experience I got and people I met and worked with were wonderful. I would definitely recommend WGU as a great place to work and would gladly have remained there if I didn't get let go due to organizational restructuring. My coworkers in my immediate team were excellent, hard working people and taught me a lot and all had great attitudes."

"I've worked at WGU since 2007. I have seen it grow over the years as they have expanded to state-based colleges across the nation. I believe in the WGU mission, and know that they represent disruptive technology to the entire higher education atmosphere. In 20 years, most schools will have adjusted accordingly."

"WGU is a fine place to work, with pretty good benefits to compensate for low pay. Working from home is a good experience, however, and more than makes up for the pay issue. Most people who are not already retired have to work a second job, but I don't, so it's lucky that our family has other sources of income."

"WGU has been a great place for me to learn DevOps practices and tools. I've met so many great people through this job, and it makes working at WGU a much better experience. However, since a recent re-organization of the technology department it has left a rift between teams. As a result, I do not have a clear path of growth and improvement."

"Worked there for a few years. Culture in Software Engineering has changed quite a lot since I started especially with going through 2 CIOs and periods of no CIOs. Its nice there is some flexibility with schedules if you need it, but no permanent remote days anymore. Seem to hire only Senior level positions and don’t have any Junior to Mid level openings anymore."

"I've worked at WGU for over 5 years as a mentor and have loved most of the role during that whole time. The students need to be the focus and what the student's see as their educational journey, not management. It has quickly become a hostile work environment, filled with managers who retaliate and turn petty when questioned about policies, micro-managing of employees who all have graduate degrees, and the push to have insanely high numbers of students. If you like to be downgraded because of your education, innovation, work 45-50 hours a week while getting paid for 40, and policies that are not written or set in stone anywhere, except when it's handy for upper management...then this is the place of employment for you!"

"The benefits are declining. WGU expects you to work 45-60 hours per week. They pick and choose what policies to implement with no written policy in employee handbook. You will cap out on salary in about 4 years. The student loads are increasing."

"Great place to work - excellent benefits, good culture, opportunities for innovation, advancement, and personal growth. Your mileage may vary - a lot depends on the quality of your program manager. Mine is outstanding; I love my colleagues; salary is on par with my industry norms; good work-life balance and flexibility in my schedule."

"As Western Gov Univ opened more offices in Indiana and Texas, the Phoenix office was completely overlooked. Most of us left or were fired because we didn't agree with the way the new management was headed. We all truly loved our students but it became very clear that numbers were most important."

"WGU is a great place to work. With a focus on becoming the best in analytics it makes the days rewarding. The city where WGU is located is an excellent place for families, with rich cultural opportunities. The President is recognized as one of the top leaders in education and business."
