"Back when I work for Wellpoint, yes I would say the company was good. I had great supervisors that cared and a strong management team that backed the employees. Just like all companies you have your ups and downs but internally I felt my unit was a great unit."

"My experience with Anthem BlueCross was mixed. In the early years it was a great company with lots of excitement and we had a goal. After Anthem bought us out, the culture was more muted. It's still a solid company to work for."

"Most technologically inept company of all-time!"

What do you like about working at Wellpoint?

"I had a great group of co-workers there. If only management would actually trust people more."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Run away. No, just kidding. Be prepared for lots of red tape to get anything accomplished."

What don't you like about working at Wellpoint?

"In the interest of full disclosure, I am being laid off by the company, however I have been saying these things for over two years. The upper management at WellPoint is completely technologically inept. They seem to base decisions on the faulty assumption that disk space is expensive and labor is cheap. They had a concept known as e-mail jail where if you exceeded your allotment, you would not be able to send or receive messages for 2 days. They thankfully got rid of that, but they are very unlikely to provide the proper amount of servers to allow us to have full production, test and development environments which leads to too much repurposing of servers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Disk space is cheap, labor is not. Memorize this statement and refer back to it every time a decision must be made!"

What do you like about working at Wellpoint?

"I liked my project teams and manager especially. The situations I was put in and the results I produced were personally satisfying and unbelievably educational."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you can't handle the heat- don't cook! WellPoint runs fast and with all the heathcare reform there is no room for slack. Be prepared to deal with demanding business partners and a thankless environment."

What don't you like about working at Wellpoint?

"The politics and lack of vertical movement. I was put in situations where I needed to work with people for short period of time and then see them let go in place of me."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Move to an incentive based reward system. There is too many older associates who are too used to collecting a paycheck. The people let go while I was there were very talented but their systems became obsolete which, in my opinion, doesn't mean they are."
