"Not all the places you deliver too are the safest of working environments, and the public (private sector) of the drivers on the roadways aren't very forgiving or courteous. I honestly think they need to be more educated in and on what professional drivers have to contend with. Now the good side, how many professionals can say the view from their desk is breathtaking and the paintings on their walls change every day, you get to see and meet an array of wonderful people every time you stop and deliver your goods. The freedom of choosing to work when and where you want can go a long way. Depending on some of your choices you can make it home almost as often as you want."
"You can show up late, leave early; hell, you don't even need to take a shower! Work unsupervised, home every night. Paid training! Yes, after you get your learners permit, we will put you with a trainer, pay you while you learn and help you get your class A CDL."
"Bad drivers and people that had no idea how to be polite to big trucks."
"The freedom to be out working by myself all day is great."
"With Central Transport I am home daily, but day and night shifts are not flexible."
"Love the freedom of being out by yourself everyday for work. Hate dealing with traffic and bad drivers."
"I enjoy driving and having the freedom of being out as long as I am able to complete my tasks. I enjoy the people I work with. There's really not much that I don't like about being a truck driver since this is a career that I am passionate about."
"I love being on my own all day driving. I hate having to work such long hours."
"I recommend working for Central Transport. They treat their employees very good. It's been a great experience!"
"Being a truck driver for Pepsi was generally good. There were days when it was the best job, just reverse into a number of large stores, unload the product with a pallet jack and get back. However there were days when you had 12 hours of work ahead of you and you were unloading it all by hand in 90 degree heat. You get in great shape!"
"With well over 3 million accident free miles, I find driving trucks is a thankless, high stress, low rewarding for experience and safety type of job. Make one honest mistake and your career can be over. The transportation industry overall is fast paced, 24 hour availability, through adverse weather, poor road conditions, high volume traffic, no fail on time delivery, hurry up and wait for hours on end at shippers and receivers, electronic nooses (8 hour, 10 hour, 14 hours HOS rules), violations, infractions, inspections, regulations and every changing regulations, all without regard or respect to the individual who is subjected to criminal prosecution and unlawful abuse at the drop of a hat! All in the name of "safety". Then add insult to injury by offering a mere 1/2 cent per mile annual raise, which equates to one whole nickel after 10 years of service, who could resist such a temptation?"
"Enjoyed that I would manage 12 employees unsupervised, and the respect the employees showed me. What I disliked the most was having to work in extreme temperatures year round, not to mention having to work all holidays (except Christmas)."
"Love the customers. Hate the unsafe distracted cell phone using drivers and the overly aggressive drivers."
