Telstra Overview

Telstra is, perhaps, the most common of all the communications companies in Australia. Telstra provides Internet to homes and businesses, cell phone service, home phone lines and cable television to consumers. More recently, the company has introduced efforts to improve customer service and digital television subscriptions.

Telstra originated as a commission in the Postmaster-General's Department. The company has been known as Telstra since 1995 under the leadership of Dr Zygmunt Edward Switkowski. Since 2009, CEO David Thodey has led the company out of Melbourne, Victoria. A 47-floor office building opened in 1992, and the telecommunications giant still operates out of this building.
