Telstra is, perhaps, the most common of all the communications companies in Australia. Telstra originated as a commission in the Postmaster-General's Department. The company has been known as Telstra since 1995 under the leadership of Dr Zygmunt Edward Switkowski. Since 2009, CEO David Thodey has led the company out of Melbourne, Victoria. A 47-floor office building opened in 1992, and the telecommunications giant still operates out of this building.
