12 Technical Support Specialist Jobs Nationwide

A technical support specialist provides client support for technical issues over the telephone, email, or in person. They may also provide basic computer training to clients. On a typical day, a technical support specialist will assist in helping clients solve technical issues over the phone or by troubleshooting problems in person.


Skillset: Strong communication and troubleshooting abilities are some of the more important skills a technical support specialist must demonstrate. They must be proficient in dealing with computer hardware and software issues.


Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is required by most employers. Some employers will consider an associate’s degree along with an industry certification such as CompTIA’s A+ and Network+.


Career Path: Technical support specialists must possess strong communication skills and an outstanding ability to troubleshoot computer hardware and software problems. Pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science and consider getting a master’s degree to increase desirability and chance of promotions. Industry certifications can also provide necessary qualifications and help build up a resume. Internships and Freelance projects are also a great way to gain useful experience.
