Software engineers, also called software developers, are often tasked to either create programs that allow users to carry out certain tasks on a computer or develop operating systems for devices and networks. Engineers sit down with users to decide how to design and create the software they need.

Being skilled in the use of computers and mathematics is also paramount in the industry. Having good customer-service skills is also necessary since software developers often have to describe how the software operates to customers and do so in a way they can understand.
Education: In most cases, a bachelor's degree in software engineering, mathematics computer science or a closely related field is necessary to qualify as a software engineer. Being skilled in the industry in which they work, finance or banking, for instance, could also prove useful in order to further understand user needs.
Career Path: Software engineers may find it beneficial to have a background in computer programming or earn a master's degree. Engineers should also remain up-to-date on the current trends, tools and computer languages in order that they can be that much more efficient at their jobs.
