"In a few short words... Politely thank the recruiter or hiring manager then ask them why there are so many pathetic and consistently horrible reviews all over the internet for this company... Wait for answer then go home and keep looking for another sales position."

What don't you like about working at School Specialty?

"Its a bad place to work to advance any sales career. You can and are terminated without cause under the guise of at will and given no notice, no reason, no nothing for your unjustified termination! I would discourage any qualified sales professional to seriously consider passing on a job offer with this company-- dont get desperate to work for this company... There is so much better out there."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take lots and lots of advanced management courses -- just because you have CEO after your name doesnt mean you know squat about running a company and especially in the case of School Specialty-- how to work with people! Get a clue or sink with your outdated, antiquated ship!"

"The company was very good to me, providing many growth opportunities and allowing me to work from home for the last five years."

"Research the educational market and their vast line of brands."

"Towards the end of my career the company focused less on the talent they had employed and lost track of where the success came from."

"Return the focus to the people who do the work and do it well, and stick to a plan for awhile before changing tracks."

"If you are in sales and dont care about reaching your personal best professinally , then yes go ahead and apply to this company run fully on mediocrity by the clueless management. Otherwise look elsewhere. You can absolutely do better."

What don't you like about working at School Specialty?

"Horrible leadership, lack of direction from middle and upper management, mantatory furloughs, no formal training for sales reps, ability to grow and think about new and exciting ways to grow your tertitory is not part of the management culture and highly discouraged. Overall a very negative place for a sales professional who cares about working at his/her maximum potential."

"Read the comments from my post and orhers on this Board and take action -- prioritize your greatest assest... The sales force"

"I was hired as a manager but was not allowed to make decisions at any level."

"The flexibility. I pretty much controlled my own hours. I enjoyed my customers and meeting new people. My home office"

"Initially, the camaraderie but that changed with the turnover in the years to come. It was a tight team and ship until management kept playing darts and changing things."

"It will either make or break you on independence of working your own territory. Have discipline or don't do it, you'll waste the company's and your time."

"For any company, listen to the sales people, they are on the streets talking."

"The products. An excellent line of quality school products. Some not so great, but you need these for the bargain only buyers."

"A good job if you are desperate for a job. But keep hunting for something better. You will not be treated well here."

"They are constantly changing management. District and Regional Managers have an extremely short life span."
