Qwest Careers and Info
Current CEO of CenturyLink: Glen F. Post III

Status: Now operates as CenturyLink

Qwest Corporation was founded in 1911 in Denver, CO. Until CenturyLink acquired the company, Qwest Corp. was a subsidiary of Qwest Services Corporation. The acquisition allowed CenturyLink to become the third-largest telecommunications company in the United States. The newly formed company now has about 17 million access lines, five million broadband customers and 1.4 million people who use one of the company’s video subscription services across 37 states.

While the company is now CenturyLink, many of Qwest’s original services remain intact as a telecommunications company acquired the majority share. The company provides broadband and wireless services to businesses and individuals throughout the United States. It also provides data, voice and managed services to corporations, government agencies and wholesale customers through fiber optic networks and data centers. The company relies on selling its products and services through direct sales, partnerships and agreements with third-party vendors.

CenturyLink has combined its openings with that of Qwest Corporation. Those looking to find Qwest careers still have many of the same opportunities. In particular, the combined company hires many employees to work in call center sales and as customer service representatives.

Prior to being acquired, Qwest had employed approximately 25,015 people. The acquisition has now allowed CenturyLink to almost double its size. The combined company now employs approximately 47,500 people. The acquisition did not seem to affect those working at Qwest. The newly formed company should help job seekers as opportunities have now become available in almost every geographic area.

The Qwest culture has been integrated with CenturyLink. The company states that its culture is based on values that it calls “Unifying Principles.” Those principles encompass the following words: “fairness, honesty and integrity, commitment to excellence, positive attitude, respect, faith and perseverance.” Because many employees work in sales and customer service, employees will have to feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment. The company also requires that all applicants take a test as part of its call center hiring process. During an interview, candidates are asked about the company’s “Unifying Principles" to see if potential hires fit the company culture.

CenturyLink and Qwest benefits have been combined. The company provides medical, dental and vision coverage. Employees also have the ability to participate in health and wellness programs and employee assistance programs. Additional benefits include paid time off, including paid holidays, and retirement and/or 401(k) plans.
