Price Chopper Supermarkets is a chain of grocery stores in New York, New England and Pennsylvania. Golub Corporation, the store’s parent company, is headquartered in Schenectady, New York. The company operates 128 stores and is continually expanding.
Golub Corporation began in 1922 as Golub Wholesale Foods, an enterprise of Russian immigrant Lewis Golub. In 1932, Golub’s sons, Ben and Bill Golub, along with partner Joseph Grosberg, opened a self-service supermarket, Public Service Market, in Green Island, N.Y. The company renamed its stores Central Markets following the opening of two new stores. The Golub brothers bought out their partner in 1943 and formed the Golub Corporation. In 1972, the chain of stores took its present name.
