National City Bank, established in 1845, was located in Cleveland, Ohio. At one point in its history, it was among the top ten largest banks in the U.S for deposits, home equity lines of credit and mortgages. In October of 2008, PNC Financial Services announced that it will be purchasing National City Bank. As of June 2010, the National City Bank name was officially retired.

Anyone working at National City Bank now works for PNC Financial Services. While there were some lay-offs because of different branches closing, many employees were able to maintain their employment within the banking industry because PNC is still listed as the 9th largest bank on the United States.

The National City Bank culture was always a high one because the company continued to excel on the Fortune 500 list and they offered a wide range of financial markets. This included commercial and retail banking, which was at the company’s core. The bank also offered mortgage financing, consumer finance, asset management and much more. The company was often abbreviated by the media as NatCity and the investment banking arm of National City also decided to bear the name, becoming NatCity Investments.
