Montgomery College Overview

Montgomery College is a public community college serving nearly 60,000 students on three campuses near metropolitan Washington D.C. Based in Montgomery County, Maryland, the school offers both credit- and non-credit classes in more than 100 study areas. The college awards two-year associate degrees, professional certificates and letters of recognition to students.

Montgomery College held its first classes in 1946 at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Enrollment at the school, then known as Montgomery Junior College, was just 186 men and women at that time. Since then, the college has expanded into a multi-campus operation with one of the nation’s most ethnically and culturally diverse student bodies. In addition to campuses in Rockville, Takoma Park/Silver Spring and Germantown, the school has off-campus centers in Gaithersburg and Wheaton that are managed by its Workforce Development and Continuing Education divisions.
