"Growth and independence is a little less, as compared to the hard work you do."

"Trust your employees more and give them enough independence and credit for the work they do exceptionally well."

"Get in while you are single and young, get out as soon as you have children."

"The intense, competitive, aggressive company culture was depressing and unhealthy."

"Promote work-life balance, and encourage innovation and leadership from the bottom up."

"Take it as a good learning opportunity if you are hired. Try to find a good group to work with, and change groups if you don't feel good."

"The company has become more bureaucratic and lost its innovative spirit. The top management has no vision and steers the company in the wrong direction."

"Become innovative again and willing to take risk. Change the review system and keep good people instead of yes sayers."

"The work was interesting and challenging. The support for even contractors for commuting was astounding. The facilities were the best ever."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"In my own hiring, I have found that broad experience can be as useful as depth in those cases where the job description is not so narrowly defined. Even if you are working on kernel code, it's nice to have an understanding of how Apache would stress it."

What don't you like about working at Microsoft?

"Leadership was not visionary. That said, our group was chartered with making something new by simply restructuring the old OS."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Win8 running on arm cpu's is a bit of a mold breaker. It will force them to rethink how their software works in that environment. Mold breaking is good for Microsoft, for their products, and eventually for consumers."
