A marketing coordinator, also known as a marketing communications coordinator, oversees the daily execution of a company's marketing plan. In general, they help prepare proposals, brochures, market research and events materials. Depending upon the company, they may also oversee website changes, marketing costs and contact management tools.
Skill Sets: Marketing coordinators should have knowledge of many types of software including: spreadsheets, databases, contact management, word processing and digital graphics. They should be able to communicate effectively by phone, by email and in front of groups of people. They may meet with vendors, clients, web designers and co-workers so they should possess good social skills. A creative mind and problem solving skills are a plus.
Education: A bachelors degree in marketing is preferred. A Master's of Business Administration (MBA) will make candidates more desirable.
Career Path: Marketing coordinators typically begin as marketing assistants, marketing associates or administrative assistants and are promoted. Internships and freelance work are a good ways to build a resume.
