What do you like about working at Macy's?
Challenging, work with a good group of executives.
What don't you like about working at Macy's?
Lack of job security.. financial issues company seems to be facing. I was informed recently that effective 3/7/10, my position is being eliminated nationwide along with several other executive and associate level positions. I was thankfully offered another position within company with comparable pay. The reason I am looking into other possible career opportunities is because I'm concerned about Macy's financial stability, as well as my own if I choose to stay there. In addition, the new position I was offered is not something I'm necessarily interested in doing, more I accepted the position as a safety net hoping that I'd enjoy it. I am also not sure that this new position is best suited for me and my career goals.
What suggestions do you have for management?
I believe a manager must hold confidence, knowledge in current/future tasks, goals, duties as well as plans. A manager must have a strong ability to prioritize as well as understand how to constantly re-prioritize (help others prioritize) every minute of the day at times. A manager should be aware of "what need be done to reach goal(s)" and work together at all times with co-workers to reach goals. In my management experience, positive reinforcement works best, alongside consistency and the ability to set boundaries, clear and cut.
