"I didn't mind handling the money so much. It was the huge responsibility that came along with job requirements. Money is what lets a person put a tank of gas to get to work, or put food on their table. If any bit of it was miscalculated we would be responsible for the error. I felt as though keeping my job depended on what I did that day, keeping my job lay in my hands."

What do you like about working at Claire's?
"The discount was wonderful. The store was fun to work at when there were kids in it."

"If you're really desperate for a job go for it. It's easy to get hired and very hard to get fired. It's a good job if you like working with kids."
What don't you like about working at Claire's?
"There was so much micro-management that it made it very hard to get anything done. The pay is horrible no matter what position you are in. Requesting time off was nearly impossible. Hours were not that great. If you had to call in for ANY reason you were given the guilt trip. You had to constantly look out for shop lifters and apprehend them if you saw it happen. Goals are nearly impossible to obtain. Your personal items are ALWAYS checked when you leave the store."

"Don't micro-manage. Trust your employees to do the work and do it well."
What do you like about working at American Apparel?
"Autonomy, creativity, coworkers, working with people directly, not sitting at a desk"

"it's retail, I didn't get paid a lot, I didn't have any status,"

"This is a good company, but it's not the utopia you may have envisioned. If you are overly idealistic, you will become severely disillusioned. Be yourself, but not too much."

"Upper management is terribly disorganized, there is excessive workplace gossip, and we are paid too little."

"I would pay more attention to the individuals working in the shops- they are what keeps this company thriving, and their dedication should be acknowledged. Shop employees should also be paid better and given more hours."
