Being skilled in the use of computers and mathematics is also paramount in the industry. Having good customer-service skills is also necessary since software developers often have to describe how the software operates to customers and do so in a way they can understand.
Education: In most cases, a bachelor's degree in software engineering, mathematics computer science or a closely related field is necessary to qualify as a software engineer. Being skilled in the industry in which they work, finance or banking, for instance, could also prove useful in order to further understand user needs.
Career Path: Software engineers may find it beneficial to have a background in computer programming or earn a master's degree. Engineers should also remain up-to-date on the current trends, tools and computer languages in order that they can be that much more efficient at their jobs.
