The owner of a business is primarily responsible for the success of the company. In the case of small businesses, owners may have a direct hand in the day to day operations of the business, such as purchasing supplies, managing personnel and performing accounting tasks. In many cases, the owner will also perform duties related to the industry that their business operates in. For example, one who owns a pizza restaurant may sometimes work as a chef and prepare pizzas.

Skill Set: Business owners need to have a talent for entrepreneurship. They must be able to find creative ways to keep their business profitable and expand it if they wish. Owners will also need to know how to perform tasks specific to running a business, like recruiting workers, doing general accounting tasks and ensuring compliance with regulations relevant to their sector of activity.

Education: No formal education is required to start many types of business, but a bachelor's degree or certificate in business management is a strong asset.

Career Path: Starting a business involves creating a well thought out business plan and putting it into action. Acquire the needed information through formal or informal education and network with other entrepreneurs in your area for tips and advice.
