Skill Sets: Expertise in investment options, tax structure, economics, math and accounting are important traits of a financial representative. Sales and marketing skills are important as they will need to secure and maintain a client base.
Education: Most companies require a bachelors degree in business, accounting, financial advising or economics. Financial representatives who trade securities must pass the Series 7 test. If a financial representative sells insurance or trades in mutual funds, they will need to take additional certification exams. Employers normally provide on the job training and study time for the Series 7 and other certification exams.
Career Path: Financial representatives are in high demand. Pursue a bachelors degree in financial advising or a related field. Consider taking the coursework to become a Certified Financial Planner. Intern for a successful financial planner or work as an assistant.
