BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Under the direction of the CFO and with the support of accounting personnel, apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Maintain accuracy and integrity of the General Ledgers and all associated accounts, multiple subsidiary ledgers, and all bank accounts of the Hospital and multiple affiliated entities. Compile and prepare monthly financial statements and financial information for presentation to the Board of Trustees and Hospital management. Prepares a myriad of work papers, reports, and supporting documentation for third-party, independent audit firms engaged to complete regular and ad hoc audits. Prepares and maintains the same in preparation for Medicare Cost Report completion. Prepares ad hoc statements of financial position as requested by Hospital Management and Administration.

Is responsible for determining, updating and implementing proper charge schedules for services rendered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the CFO, plans, organizes, and administers the hospital accounting practices and procedures, the maintenance of fiscal records, and preparation of financial reports. Has managerial responsibilities for general accounting, budgeting, and tax functions for Hospital and affiliates. Bank statement reconciliations for all Hospital and affiliated entities on a timely monthly basis. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts. Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other financial reports to summarize current and projected Hospital and affiliates’ financial position. Prepare and compile monthly financial statements and statistical information for presentation to the Board and management. Assist with the preparation of annual budget for the Hospital and all affiliated entities. Establish, modify, document, and coordinate the implementation of accounting procedures and their control based on the review of processes and system controls. Coordinates with department managers for the individual department's financial reporting. Performs or supervises the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. Supervise and review Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger Accountant, Grant Writer, and Assistant Controller functions of the Fiscal Services Department. Train, hire, manage, discipline or terminate staff directly responsible for the accounting functions. Manage the annual compilation of the Cost Report, including calculating and evaluating current allocations to correctly enter expenses to cost centers for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements. Be knowledgeable of Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance reimbursement regulations and monitor contractual adjustments. Manage the annual audit and assist the external auditors with the completion of annual financial audit for the Hospital and affiliated entities. Complete special assignments as directed by the CFO and/or CEO. Responsible for journal entries (completion and review), review of interim statements, and the timely monthly closing of the general ledger for financial reporting. Oversee and manage the daily cash flow activities of the Hospital and affiliates including daily review of ledger balances as reported by financial institutions. Is responsible for the complex ACH, EFT, and other electronic transactions between affiliated corporations, vendors, customers, and other stakeholders. Responsible for all payroll tax reporting. Prepares monthly sales tax filing. Collaborates with grant-writing staff to prepare all grant-related financial reports. Assists and trains department managers with department-specific fiscal matters including budget variance management, mitigation, and rectification.
