Position Overview

As the Senior Corporate Communications Specialist at the Boy Scouts of America, you will play a crucial role in shaping and safeguarding the organization’s brand reputation. Through strategic public relations, media relations, and internal communications, you will contribute to positive brand building, crisis management, and effective information dissemination. Collaborating with internal teams, volunteers, and councils, you’ll be instrumental in aligning communications with BSA’s mission and values.


In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive public relations strategies that resonate with BSA’s objectives. You’ll provide valuable insights on media relationships, proactive and reactive messaging, and contribute to the creation and distribution of various public communications. Additionally, you’ll lead internal communications initiatives to engage, inform, and motivate BSA’s dedicated volunteers and staff.


Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the supervisor to design and execute comprehensive public relations strategies aligned with BSA’s goals, mission, and values.

• Offer expertise in media relationships, crafting proactive and reactive messaging, and guiding colleagues through crisis communications.

• Work collaboratively to develop internal communications that resonate across the organization.

• Engage with media on behalf of both national and local councils, tracking and analyzing campaign effectiveness.

• Provide insights and advice on issues management, aiding BSA leaders and colleagues in navigating crisis situations and unplanned events.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, or a related field.


Qualifications

  • 5 years of communications experience, with at least 3 years focused on issues management or crisis communications.
  • Equivalent work-related experience demonstrating proficiency in the minimum qualifications is acceptable.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Media relations principles, strategic communications planning, management practices, journalistic writing and editing techniques, standard office software.
  • Establishing effective relationships with media, the public, and employees, clear verbal and written communication, disseminating information via media outlets, crisis communication planning.
  • Manage stress, adapt, and maintain energy in a dynamic environment.
