Construction superintendents supervise both commercial and residential construction sites. They work under the direction of a contractor to manage subcontractors and their schedules so that a building is constructed in a timely manner and orderly fashion. Construction superintendents also oversee operational tasks like ordering supplies and managing the budget.

Skillset: A construction superintendent needs to be very detail oriented, organized and able to work under pressure. They also need the ability to work well with and manage others. Multitasking skills are a must.

Education: While a formal education is not necessary to be a construction superintendent, business management and accounting classes would be highly beneficial.

Career Path: A person often gains entry into this field by working as a subcontractor or as an employee of a subcontractor or contractor. Since becoming a construction superintendent relies more on one's skills than education, knowledge of the different aspects of construction, such as electrical work or plumbing, is very valuable and will help a person advance in this profession.
