An auditor collects data for the specific purpose of scanning, analyzation and correction. An auditor may check for things such as fraud, noncompliance, or duplicate entries based on the particular nature of the job. Auditors may also provide feedback based on data given to them and recommend possible improvements.
Skillset: An auditor needs to be analytical and have the ability scan and analyze data for correction. Good writing, writing and communication skills are especially important. The ability to sift between the important and unimportant details of a document or report are also a necessity in this field.
Education: Any degree in business, in particular a degree in auditing will best assist the prospective auditor in building a resume and finding their ideal job as an auditor. A degree in Business Administration or Liberal Arts can also assist an auditor in finding a position. Varying on the job auditor will also need to take the CPA exam, administered by The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Career Path: After acquiring some form of business degree, a prospective auditor should have a strong grasp of proofreading, scanning and communication skills. Internships and entry level business positions are also an option.
