I worked at FactSet for over six years. Overall the environment is very friendly and the work schedule is great for a financial software company. You are given a lot of opportunities to turn initiative into results. My managers were always receptive to ideas coming from anywhere, including first year developers. Free lunches four days a week and provided drinks/snacks, also helped to create a good overall work environment.
The thing that makes the company is the people working there. They are focused on finding great people, then finding a good place to utilize their abilities. So there is a wide variety of backgrounds at FactSet that produce a unique and friendly atmosphere.
This is a fantastic place to work. I encourage any and everyone to apply for a job here if they can. The work life balance is top notch (My manager comes in at 11am), no one works overtime and the environment is young and upbeat. However, the type of work is not completely interesting (it's a bit dry... but if you're interested in financial information software, this is the best place you could possibly work).
When preparing a plan for a new product or direction for an application, try to consider the long-term ramifications of the technologies used to prevent problems of scalability. As a technology company, it is imperative that management and employees are aware of the benefits and drawbacks of emerging technologies.
