"It is really hard, which is often a pro, but sometimes it is nearly unbearable."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"In TS, keep on doing what you're doing. IS and R&D online reputation is tarnishing the rest of the company, so find a way to nip that in the bud."

What do you like about working at Epic Systems?

"They allow you to take a good amount of travel, so you can get out and actually see how the software is used with real users. Salary is very good if you pass all the tests, and they even buy books for you. The cafeteria food is very good and reasonably priced."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The interview process is a choreographed show, so think about what topics they are avoiding. Don't be fooled when they tell you how much fun it is to work there or that they only work 45 hours a week. Ask all your interviewers how many tests you will have to pass before you get your full salary, and how long that should take."

What don't you like about working at Epic Systems?

"I dislike the extreme isolation from a competitive environment within the development teams. There is no overall software design or architecture, so you have to piece together how things work from disjointed sources. You have to spend your own time studying for a long series of tests before you get the salary you were originally offered. The technology and tools are mostly obsolete, which makes your job a lot harder than it should be."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take some time to learn about the positive aspects of modern technology instead of rejecting it all outright or claiming that your technology is the best that is available. Management appears to have no idea about recent advances in software development or even understand what is out there."

"The corporate takeover hurt morale and working environment. They need to embrace what got us this far."

"Not particularly. They care more about project quality and work ethic than your skill in various languages (mostly because you probably won't be using them)."

What don't you like about working at Epic Systems?

"The technology used is tired - straight out of 1979 with no real evolution between then and now. VB6 died out for a reason, and MUMPS is no language for a developer trained in OO techniques."

"The tech is tired. Join the rest of the world in the 21st century."

"I like being able to find creative solutions to meet my customers needs. I enjoy analyzing business and state requirements to maximize revenue for my customers. I like creating reports based on the current state of their workflows, analyzing this data and developing recommendations to improve processes."

"You will enjoy this job if you like hard work and creative thinking to develop innovative solutions for your customers."

"I consistently work 70+ hours per week, and this burns employees out."

"Work with employees to help them balance a work/home life relationship."

"I love working with the people here. I enjoy working with my coworkers and meeting the different people who come and go. I also enjoy helping to solve difficult problems and sharing them with my team."

"I would recommend asking if they have room for growth and pay for additional training. People there are great people to work with."

"I don't like how there is no room for growth in this company. Hard work is not rewarded here, and I am on my fifth manager in almost two years."

"Reward hard work, allow for room for growth or point them in the right direction, and train employees in newer technology that they have purchased."

"I dislike minimum opportunities in career growth and career path, and working on old technologies."
