Elan Corp. is a biotechnology company focused on developing pharmaceuticals to treat autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders. The neuroscience-based company currently markets a multiple sclerosis drug, Tysabri, that it developed in partnership with Biogen Idec. Currently, the company is reportedly working on treatments for ulcerative collitis, Chrohn's disease, Parkinson's disease, bipolar disorder and Alzheimer's disease.

The biotechnology firm is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Elan was established in 1969 and converted to a publicly-traded company in 1984. In 2011, Elan merged its drug manufacturing and formulation business, Elan Drug Technologies, with bio-pharmaceutical company Alkermes. Most of Elan's research and development facilities are located in Ireland and the U.S., with offices in South San Francisco, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts and Lucerne, Switzerland.
