Detective at Houston Police Department

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"It was worth 14 years of my early career life, teaching me many things I carried into the future"

What do you like about working at Houston Police Department?

"I felt like I was doing something worthwhile even though it was not always immediately gratifying. I enjoyed the camaradarie of working toward the same goals when I first started and there were many opportunities to learn different aspects of law enforcement."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Working with a major metro police force will give new officers much more experience in the field dealing with many different situations than starting a career in a small department where opportunity and field expereince is less likely to come to them."

What don't you like about working at Houston Police Department?

"Changing times in society took away a lot of the closeness in the ranks in the later years sometime spitting one officer against the other. Eventual duties took me into the INternal Affairs division. This was not pleasant duty but most officers there did what they had to do while in that assignment. It was not a voluntary position."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"More training is needed in political awareness. Less use extra duty ( Extra jobs) from individual officers while putting them to use on the police payroll if extra pay is needed or desired."
