What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

Nice, creative environment. Great coworkers. Beautiful studio campus which is wonderful to work at (grass, trees, nice architecture).

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

I saw some inefficient use/waste of budget in a few departments; Once a dept had one bad apple manager (tyrant or didn't know their job or didn't have managing experience), those same mgrs would hire similar types. Pay - Disney doesn't have to pay competatively since everyone wants to work there. (It's very tough to get in! HR receives over 700 resumes for each job position, per HR). I did not have a bad experience at Disney, but these were my observations of things happening around us.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I'd remind them to interview carefully and ask the right questions, or look around them to promote from within. Hire hard working people with true work ethic and good people skills; make sure management is put in place who know how to MANAGE and know how to gain the trust and respect of their people. Teamwork can help a company soar. The lack of teamwork and integrity can make a company sink.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Have your ducks in order, well polished resume, do your homework on the job you're applying for. Bring enthusiasm and a genuine smile to the table during your interview!

Does Disney World actually hire for part time roles from outside the Company? If so, why do they post roles that stay on their site for as long as 5 or 6 months, when they say they update their site every day? Do you have to know someone on the inside or have a referral card from a Cast Member to even have them look at your paperwork? 02.05.12

"Accurate. I really enjoyed working for Disney"

The Walt Disney Co. Review by Director, Marketing - Disney Mobile in North Hollywood, CA on

5.00

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

The company and its employees really cared about the Guest Experience (ie: Customer service and experience). It was refreshing to work for a company that truly valued its customers, and took great strides to deliver a quality entertainment product, and treat "guests" right.

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

The company closed the division I was working for - Disney Mobile, two year after launching the business. It made business sense, but was personally an unwelcomed outcome.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I think it is great that management takes risks into new entertainment venues to remain fresh and relevant to consumers. The mobile division was one such venture, and elements of this failed effort are still occurring in the company with other Disney divisions getting into mobile marketing and entertainment applications. Keep up the good work taking strategic and calculated risks in offering your "guests" new ways to experience the great entertainment The Walt Disney Company has to offer.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Be yourself, be creative, and ensure you show up and are ready to actively participate in meeting your division's and the company's goals and objectives.

"A Fair Assessment of my experiences there"

The Walt Disney Co. Review by Software Developer in Burbank, CA on

1.90

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

The product and the highly accepted delivery

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

Micromanagement; non-growth; Tunnel Vision by many director level people. Disappointment of quite a workers with many idiosyncrasies encountered with them where often it can be walking on 'eggshells' on a daily basis.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Drop the politics; Drop the management overkill of requirements within the employee review process. It worked much better and less issues with informal reviews. Stick to clear establish company policies than changing policies on the fly after working X # of years and suddenly changing. Drop the micromanagement for EVERY task given; Hire better FRIENDLY directors than just 'Axe men' or folks looking for negative. Drop the overkill of buzzwords/technologies and focus on good people/core foundation that made the company than assembly line philisophies

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Lots of patience for the interview process; Prep for questions outside the required position and stay focused on the position v. any questions outside that requirement

"It was a fantastic learning opportunity and I had a lot of fun"

The Walt Disney Co. Review by Undergrduate Associate Web Developer on

4.40

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

It was a great work environment, I learned a lot about web developing that is invaluable, and I met a lot of people who impacted my lives in more ways than I can count. Overall, it was a great work environment, one of those jobs that I could not wait to get to everyday.

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

I was an intern, and the company has a maximum 7 month hiring policy. I didn't like the fact that regardless of how good I was and how much I enjoyed the job, I could not stay after 7 months.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I had a great manager, he was instructive but not imposing. He was funny and relaxed, but he also demanded the highest quality of performance. My only suggestion was that I wish I was guided a bit more when I first started the position. There were times when I didn't quite know what I had to do. Thankfully that was resolved quickly.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Be honest about yourself, be confident, be relaxed. Know that it is not only how good you are as a worker, it's also how much they feel lik working with you.

"Overall Bliss: Below Average"

The Walt Disney Co. Review by Senior Manager, Technology on

1.50

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

The company legacy, the complimentary Silver Pass. That's it.

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

Everything was about politics, even trivial politics. Everything was about perception, not truth, and it is a very gossipy and secretive culture where saying something unpopular or not agreed with by the masses is not viewed well at all. Also, good look with work/life balance at Disney (especially the internet group), it doesn't exist, and the leadership only pays it lip service when it comes down to it.

What suggestions do you have for management?

The middle/upper management layer needs to be cleared out and replaced with competent, motivated, and involved leaders. The focus needs to be on doing great work and living up to the Disney name, not playing politics.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

The technology leadership is unfocused and unclear, the higher up one goes in this company the more difficult it becomes. Focus on real improvements, not improvements that only sound better on paper or are done just for the sole sake of looking good in front of one's boss.

Make sure your boss is extremely competent and does their job, as the place is filled with lackluster leadership at nearly every level.

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

I enjoyed the diversity in my position. The numerous projects and ability to continually learn and perform.

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

The Walt Disney Company is a great company. However, it seems that inter-departments function on different levels and have different methods of promoting and rewarding employees. The standards are not company and department wide.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I have many suggestions for management. However, the ultimate suggestion is to have a balanced and uniform set of educational benefits, promotions, standards, and work ethics company-wide.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Be honest and frank and do not be intimidated by a large company. Do not be afraid to discuss your wants and needs up-front and indicate your expectations from the company just as they explain there expectations to you.

The volatility of the entertainment industry is a concern because of impact it can have on employees.

"It is an amazing corporation, just remember, it's a corporation, not a family business."

The Walt Disney Co. Review by Associate Technical Analyst in Burbank, CA on

What do you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

Knowing the standard of quality they have in all they do brings pride to what you do when you work there.

What don't you like about working at The Walt Disney Co.?

Lots and lots of politics.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Promote from within. Too often I watched people leave because they couldn't move up and come back a year later hired into a position as high or higher than they couldn't get while still working there.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Know your Disney information - not just movies but all their holdings and businesses. Also, try to get someone inside to recommend you or get an email of a person in the department you want to get into.
