"I would love to work for Nordstrom with the management team."

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
I like Nordstrom's consistency in all areas of running a company. Most importantly, their customer service and how they care about their employees. I love to work with the management team in the accounting department as I have over 20 years experience in management mainly in retail and manufacturing corporations both domestically and internationally. I started as a sales person while going to college and I had always being among the top producers in any department I had worked. I believe in taking ownership of your career, be a team player, be involve with each department to find what could be lacking to increase sales and have a higher gross margin, thus communicating with the associates on the floor who deal with the customers on daily basis are the ones who can give their inputs which in a way gives them the encouragement knowing that their opinions does count. In a sense based on my experience, the more the management is positive and actually listens to the crew, the more productive the whole team becomes. It is the energy which any manager gives out and truly means it and does do the followup with the results consulting with the associates. In a sense, this motivates and gives energy to the whole sales force to stay positive throughout the busy and slow seasons. In my opinion, it is all about the attitude each member of a company presents.
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
Employees at Nordstrom always have to present Nordstrom,'s image which is what corporations are about, but at the same token some of the employees do not earn enough money to buy expensive clothes and may feel that they spend more money on looking good than paying their bills. I do understand that employees get discount, yet there should be some kind of policy for employees to get more discounts at certain time of a year.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Be more involved. Teach the associates that if a customer walks and looks like that he/she can not afford the pricing at Nordstrom, let them know that one particular customer could be the one who could make the quota of the day. It is all about perception, and unfortunately salespeople ignore customers whom t hey believe in their minds may not have the money to spend and that is why some really wealthy customers just walk out after being ignored. As they say never judge the book by its cover.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
I have worked in retail corporation both domestically and internationally. I started as a sales person while going to school, promoted into management. I have received two degrees in accounting and finance, thus I understand the whole cycle of how both retail and manugfacturing corporations operate.

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
What I most enjoyed about Nordstrom is the deep level of loyalty customer have. I enjoyed the customer service and sales expectations. My deepest level of satisfaction came while working with breast cancer patients as we provided services within the lingerie department.
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
What I disliked most about Nordstrom is that there is little movement into corporate. Also, as with retail, there was a lot of turnover within both employees and management, but it always seemed to work and continued to challenge me in training new hires.
What suggestions do you have for management?
My suggestion to Nordstrom management, coming from what I currently do within the media/training industry, is to provide more coaching/leadership training to department managers. Although, I was VERY happy with all the managers I worked for/with.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
My biggest word of advice for others interviewing is be ambitious and you will succeed in sales at Nordstrom! The possibilities are there if you want to get into management.

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
coworkers, fancy presentation of the department store , name of the company, even if the store treat you poorly
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
lies made up sweetness and politics,hiring new young associates so the company can save $$ on a pay , health benefits, and 401 .there is no engagement between higher management and store team cutting off bonuses .To make the story short 10 years ago it was a good company , but not right now!
What suggestions do you have for management?
go back to the fundamentals - people, treat them good keep up with the real expectations, not dreams , real goals - not fairy tails one respect and try to keep core associates who invested there life s to Nordstrom

its just a temporary gob use it like a great training tool Company still have a good name from the past , so on your resume it will look good that you work for them .

What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
In my experience, when someone has a a preconceived notion about you, it never goes away, even of others see you in a positive light. I'm sure this is true in many businesses. It's just a little harder when so many of a companies' leaders are women. Women have had such a hard time getting ahead in their careers, that they look at every woman as a competitor.
What suggestions do you have for management?
I think some of the upper level management still don't connect with the sales force on the floor. They speak the inverted pyramid, but don't reach out enough to learn what the customer really needs.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be big! Shoe a lot of personality. If you want to make the big bucks work in shoes.

The customers are really awesome - for the most part they're always pleasant to deal with because they are having that Nordstrom experience.

All of H.R except for one will not help you - If there was a pill to kill a bug up your bum they should take it. The Leadership is for the most part fake - its all about the sales and if you can't meet your quoata then your OUT

hat sold me on Nordstrom is they said we value or employees but at the very end it was all about sales. period. Or the more u sale the bigger your paycheck. If you spend maybe 60 to 80 hours a week when do have time to have a life. And once you're tired I mean really tired its on to the next person

The idea that you can really grow with the company, people are always willing to help you grow.
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
When trying to work your way up (or down) from the floor you can get the feeling that there's some politics. And you better know someone in the corporate area, because it's a challenge to get off the floor.
What suggestions do you have for management?
I love my manager if you tell her what your goals are and where you want to go, she'll help you out as much as she can. I feel like most mangers are the same here, but I have heard of a few managers tht can really drop the ball.

Honestly be yourself and have a personality, because fitting in with this company's culture(whch is a big reason why I like it here) is a big deal.

I enjoyed the people I worked with and the customers. I formed many long-term relationships.
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
There was so much time when there were no customers. I need to be continually challenged.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Management needs to be more upfront with the employees. In reviews they would be very brief, simply saying "everything is ok" or "what happened?" However, they would not off er any words of advice or encouragement. They simply said get the sales up or we'll have to let you go.

Take what they say with a grain of salt. They gve you grand expectations but these are only very rare.

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
I liked when I first started years ago but once I learned the business I realized my mistake. Eastcoast vs.westcoast..a different vibe..the virgiia stores are not professional..they hire their own kind ot be managers and it is even harder to even try to be a buyer..please..store manager..don't even..the comppany on a whole is okay just a few changes in tyson is needed..please help..

Very young "management" team. You have to work at a very busy store to earn the type of money that they say you can earn. The money a person makes at a smaller store is nothing in comparison to working at an 'A' level store....
What suggestions do you have for management?
quit using the VERY CANNED response of "Well, its not for everyone..." in reference to people who struggle to make the money YOU SAID was realistic to make.

The interview for me was very easy, but then again, Im not a candidate who is fresh out of school where this is my first job ever....

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
The people I worked with and how much trust was instilled in us as employees. Nordstrom is just such a good company to work for. They believe in true customer service and treating their employees with respect. Without happy employees; there are no happy customers.
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
Sometimes it felt like that typical sales environment and I am ready for a change when it comes to retail.
What suggestions do you have for management?
More trust and freedom in immediate staff and lower management when it comes to running their business. No micro managing

Make sure if you work in the cosmetic department, that you know what company you are working for.
