"interesting to see if this goes back directly to Ericsson"

Ericsson Review by Engineer IV in Plano, TX on

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

It was work. I like working. Ericsson is excellent in Cellular communications.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

No meaningful assignments. Sit for days without any work or assignments. Training formal or informal and or self learning was discouraged and at times bluntly told to stop learning by the immediate manager. Role defined absolutely perfectly that the person is not allowed to know or do anything else even though the person may be qualified in other areas. Ericsson created boxes around each position to the extent of defining how that person in the position would interact/speak with other persons and positions at Ericsson. Training materials were developed to teach each person/position how they would interact with other persons.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I have heard other Ericsson locations around the world are not similar to the environment/work atmosphere of Ericsson in Texas.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

If you are desperate for the work and money, it is Ok to work for Ericsson. First 2 or 3 items in the job description are the most important needs/ requirements. All the rest of the job description items are wants but not needs.

"Overall Bliss: Below Average"

Ericsson Review by Field Service Technician on

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

My favorite part of working for Ericsson is that, on most days, 16 hours of my day are not spent working for Ericsson.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

Your an automaton. You are a wrench with a data entry capability. You are replaceable. Accept it.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I would scrap the whole one-to-many concept. From their point of view having everyone trained in everything makes employees expendable and interchangeable. This makes labor cheaper and staff changes easier to smooth over. From the point of view of the employees it means that everyone is average at everything. Nobody is good at anything. With no specialization there is no job security. Ericsson makes sure you know that you are just another number. Eventually, you aren't even a human. You're just a tool. When you treat your employees like this they take every advantage they can, they keep their heads down, they do the bare minimum. There's no excellence, no pride in their work, no innovation.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Unless you grow wool and enjoy dead eyed staring and resigned sighs, get a different job.

"The company is great. The R&D employee can have full access to documentations, source codes. The atmosphere is causal. Employees are intelligent. However, the business is in the downturn although the company is still one of the leader in its field."

Ericsson Review by Software Engineer on

4.40

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

The company has leading technology. It creates an environment where people from different countries are working in the same office. Cooperation with employees over different continents is also very common. In ST-Ericsson, I worked with the top smartphone company for their flagship model. Working in ST-Ericsson was definitely an amazing experience.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

The chaos happens after the merge.(ST microelectronics and Ericsson Mobile Platform).

What suggestions do you have for management?

Should have clear product road map. Now it has already got better.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Should be very competent in C language. Should also be very flexible in problem solving because problem is system software can be very diverse. Good knowledge about operating system can be of great help.

Not family friendly, no job security 09.15.11

"Ericsson is the global telecommunications leader and has a lot of talented people working for them."

Ericsson Review by Sales Director in Plano, TX on

4.10

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

Full medical benefits paid for entire family. Company matching 401k. Excellent and talented people to work with.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

Ericsson Federal is in a transition period and they are trying to determine their strategy moving forward so there is some uncertainty moving forward.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I would say that they should be building the sales competency and not letting people go. I don't believe that they best way to grow the business is to reduce your sales force and those that are supporting those efforts.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

You need to be able to work in a team environment because all decisions that are made are done so in a team oriented fashion. All people within the CORE team have a voice on any deal that is being brought to the table.

Ericsson Review by Field Technician II on

1.30

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

Nothing. Constant management shuffles, Ericsson will hire an outsourced foreign worker before considering a U.S. citizen.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

Technicians are treated as a necessary evil. Very low moral. Workforce is motivated by watching them layoff skilled people who don't fit their dumbed down idea of a technician or engineer. They do not want techs taking ownership of their work. A "just close the work ticket" mentality runs rampant throughout management.

What suggestions do you have for management?

They need to throw their whole European business concept out and start from scratch. It's not working here.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Don't expect much. In a company of over 90,000 people you are just a number. In fact if you can avoid it, don't even apply. All jprojects last only a certain time and once they're up you have to find another project to work on no matter where it is.

"Ericsson Services is a good company, with great people, but they are moving in a direction that makes employment very volatile and is not family friendly. "

Ericsson Review by RF Engineer II in Honolulu, HI on

3.30

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

I like the people that I work with very much, in spite of our number we are a tight group, and work well together.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

Job volatility and direction that does not leave much room for family (mid-term contract work that requires a lot of time, perhaps as much as most of the time, away from home).

What suggestions do you have for management?

Design work opportunities to work around families as some travel (25-35%) is ok, but a lot of travel (50 -75%) is destructive to family units.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

If you are single and desire high tech training opportunities and travel, this company is for you!

Ericsson Review by Product Marketing Manager, Product Manager in Pittsburgh, PA on

3.30

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

Ericssion is a gobal company with very advanced sales and marketing tactics and strategies. Brand marketing was always key with product and solution marketing designed to fall in with the brand - it was very structured system and it was good to work within a strong, recognized brand.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

Ericsson is managed almost exclusively by Swedes and it is difficult to make headway against that type of organization. Marconi was always cash strapped and budgets were always very tight making it difficult to market anything effectively.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Diversify your senior management staff.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Hard work and creativity are prized, demonstrate those and you will be heard.

Ericsson Review by Contractor on

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

Most people i know are not happy at Ericsson. I like the project ideas. But the managers and implementation sucks.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

The management is authoratative like from the 80s. Nobody who has worked in any of the good companies from Bay area would like to work here. My Team leader micro manages everything and you have to be toady to him for him to not give you any trouble. I feel like most people must be just stuck there because they are too lazy to find anything else or just compelled

What suggestions do you have for management?

Management really needs to get out of the 80s and need a revamp of all the old school managers who are control freaks.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Dont go here. This company sucks.

I agree. I quit Ericsson last July. Depending on which group you are in, some are dominated by 1 ethnic group and you will feel like an outcast or be asked to report to a lower level engineer from that group. 12.29.11

What do you like about working at Ericsson?

The ability to help customers fix issues in a timely matter.

What don't you like about working at Ericsson?

There was lack of organization within the company which caused confusion for others in the work place..

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Ensure that you know exactly what you're getting into this is a very high paced work environment and you have to be able to multitask efficiently as well as knowing your job as a network engineer.
