What do you like about working at Centex?
Everyone was wonderful, the company had great leadership, training and benefits. Stressful work and not as creative as I wanted. I am more of a creative, design, TV etc marketing person, this was 90% Business Development, and when I decided to leave, they completely supported me, allowing me time to interview with new companies while I transitioned my work to another person. Wish it was more of the work I wanted, as the company, benefits and everything else was WONDERFUL! I am still in contact with many of my co-workers who are still there more than 10 years later.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
Just wish it was more creative or geared towards advertising and promotions - that is where my true passion is, and why I left. I have no complaints about my time at Centex!
What suggestions do you have for management?
Keep working hard for and with your employees. The amount of respect and input you allow them is special. Giving them the correct tools and 'permission' to do their job is not something every company does.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be true to yourself, be sure you are passionate about the work this company does (now Balfour Beatty) and you will love the opportunity, work and people!

What do you like about working at Centex?
Enjoyed the challenge of insuring Centex's sales success through role as mortgage partner, then ultimately responsible for sales execution through mortgage programs.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
Senior leadership focused on efficiency rather than sales, and did not understand that buying and financing real estate involves emotional decisions. This lead to company failure.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Focus on sales and use mortgage programs to insure sales success. Payment often drive sales, and in a more fixed rate, fully qualified world, focusing on offering lower payments is often the most effective sales strategy.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
I apologize, but this is not really applicable since the company failed and is no longer in business.
Centex Review by Online Sales Consultant in North Charleston, SC on
What do you like about working at Centex?
I liked that I was selected to create the Online Sales position due to my computer experience and successful sales process. It was nice to be recognized from them for all of the hard work and they were great with rewarded employees for a good well done.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
Management started to hire "friends" and not qualified individuals to hold high positions. This inexperience created a lot of problems. A "friend" was hired to be my partner and I was forced to share all commissions. I have no problem sharing if equal work is done but I ended up doing all of the work which was frustrating.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Make sure an individual is hired for merit and not because of who they know.

What do you like about working at Centex?
Working with in a team to accomplish the same goal. Working with team leaders in a professional environment on a day to day operation.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
Worked as a Starts Manager III / Field Manager II at Rose Lake, which had three neighborhoods, Cantura, Terraces and Berkshire Estates. Where I was encouraged to tell the project manager what I saw , then the project manager would go back and tell the Field Manager III that I said these things and would create animosity between us.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Cut out the philosophy that lifting and encouragement to others is for the good of the company an not themselves. When in doubt ask , and not to be afraid.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
If your a college graduate make sure that Residential Construction is what you really want.

What do you like about working at Centex?
My supervisor was amazing to work for. This company gave me some expirence in underwriting, audit, processing, and some closing. I like that it introduced more than just the processing part of the industry.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
I think that due to them having you play so many roles ie: underwriter, processer, audit, closing... one is never really able to be the best at any of the possitions. There was no real form of training.
What suggestions do you have for management?
There needs to be more training, and more specified roles so that the proper attention can be placed on all aspects of the positions available.

What do you like about working at Centex?
The continuous training and availibility to learn and grow as an employee. Good recruitment of talent.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
My family life suffers, I work 50-60 hours a week to cover both QA and LP. Pay is extremely low for performing two management jobs, with little or no raises for a two year period, even if performance is exemplerary.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Change the cost of living and pay increase process. With cost of living raising 4-5% a year, a max of 2%, more like a 1% raise is not nearly enough. This especially goes when the company is spending billions to buy more companies.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be confident, but not overly confident. Make sure your facts are straight.

What do you like about working at Centex?
The insurance and retirement plans.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
There attitude that they are better then others. The division president said in a manditory meeting that "this division doesn't sell homes, we sell life styles". They need to come down of there high horse.
What suggestions do you have for management?
When you hire someone because of there experience, listen to them and do your research so you won't have so many problems.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be very open minded and always honest.

What do you like about working at Centex?
Excellent learning environment.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
VERY long hours, bad management (in the Accounting Department) at the time I worked there (all have been fired since I moved on).
What suggestions do you have for management?
Respect people's need for a family time and time to study after work. This is not possible if you work 7am-7, 8,9 or 10pm! Also be sure to be fair when distributing work. Everyone should be putting in equal time and effort. Get rid of the employees with bad attitudes who aren't producing results. There are plenty of hard-working people out there looking for work.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be yourself. The company as a whole is very family oriented and lovely.
"Centex Homes is well organize and has systems & training in place to help you be a success."
Centex Review by Field Manager III on
What do you like about working at Centex?
Good structure and organization & training. Easy to gauge growth.
What don't you like about working at Centex?
The bad housing/real estate market - I took a transfer prior to the Central Coast closing its doors and then left the company to learn project management when I saw downsizing happening in Seattle.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Don't grow too fast. It's better to heve deep well established roots and be able to weather a storm than to become so over extended in land speculation and holdings that when the market turns south you have to shut the doors.
