What do you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
I liked the variety of the position and the excitement of reporting the news. Everyday brought a new opportunity and new exciting story to report in the field. Come 5pm, it was game time. We had to be ready to roll by 5pm every night for the live newscast. It was fast paced, and a high energy enviornment, which I loved!
What don't you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
Upper management at CBS lacked direction for the news director. We didn't receive a lot of guidance or direction from upper management, which left us in the dark in some respects.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Communication is key! Without communication, employees will be left guessing their role and what their priorities are on a daily basis. I learned from that situation, that if the top management positions are not communicating effectively with their employees, the entire organization will suffer due to the lack of communication and the understanding of each persons role on the team.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Be open and honest in regard to what type of role you want with CBS. Be ready to work. It is an incredibly demanding job that requires passion and determination on a daily basis.

What do you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
CBS Radio at the time was the number one media company in the Washington, DC area. They hired me after graduation and I worked in radio ad sales for 5 years. They had an excellent training program for new account executives and provided support. I successfully found a niche in the financial vertical and sold radio ads to credit card companies and banks.
What don't you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
CBS was a true corporate enviromnent, there was no opportunity to grow or get promoted. I had 4 levels of management above me. I left CBS radio when I relocated to the West coast, the radio industry was changing and I found a new career online.
What suggestions do you have for management?
SI would day to stay current - look for new opportuniites, learn from other industries.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
My tip would be to show diversity - ability to merge traditional and new media.

The out-of-touch corporate "Think"; these are Numbers guys who don't have a clue about what it takes to build a Bottom Line, much less, maintain it.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Take a lesson from the successful companies out there, who rely on a Team-building environment, where EVERY member is invaluable to the overall mission. The General Manager must be a bulldog, not a wimp, in demanding of Corporate that they empower the local reality, locality and variables intrinsic to each area; every location has it's unique properties and must be addressed as such.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Don't count on stability, longevity, enrichment, or empowerment; treat it as a stepping stone of learning and moving on.

What do you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
I did enjoy learning about how people live in another region of the country. I liked learning about other cultures and traditions.
What don't you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
I did not like living so far away from Pennsylvania.
What suggestions do you have for management?
The equipment we used often did not work. If possible, I would suggest reconditioning the equipment or purchasing newer things. However, managers were sympathetic when the cameras, editing equipment was malfunctioning. It was frustrating to everyone to not be able to do their job as well as possible.

The supervisors I worked for are no longer with the company.

CBS had great programs, research and facilities to work in.
What don't you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
At the time I had a disfunctional managment team that had a managment structure in place that was condusive to selling.

It is my working knowledge that a new structure including a working creative support team is in place which helps with the success of sales.

Make sure you receive a contract in writing thatoutlines expected goals and compensation.

What do you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
I was largely unsupervised and allowed to take my department in a direction I felt best for the online presence.
What don't you like about working at CBS Broadcasting?
The remote corporate oversight seemed cold and impersonal as well as ill informed to local needs and trends.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Think out of the box. The same stale, old ideologies that worked in radio 20-30 years ago having been failing for the last 10+ hence the declining value of radio properties nationwide.

The lack of competent management. We went through 2 news directors while I was there, as well as, a number of anchors and reporters.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Communication is the key. If you don't talk to your employees then they don't know what you are thinking.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Plan on being there 2 years or less... Go place to get experience, but don't plan on a long career there.

I enjoyed be able to be creative and also being with the largest TV station in the Desert area.

Sales department was not structured nor did they have the proper training to help you grow.

To develope a stronger training program along with implientmenting a sales program so everyone could know who was working on what.

To be prepared to enter into 1990 old sales ways. No software to be used and back to the old basics of paper trail...

It was exciting to be part of the production at a late night talk show on a major network. I started as an intern and was later hired for work as a Production Assistant.
