Baxter International Review by Research Associate III, Biopharmaceutical Research and Development on
What do you like about working at Baxter International?
I really enjoyed the people. The team environment in which everyone was supportive and helpful. We tried to not only be a great research and development group but we also tried to be a cohesive company at this particular site by having research write-ups and correspondence that let everyone know what each group was doing and wanted to accomplish.
What don't you like about working at Baxter International?
The job security. We found out the site was shutting down and all of the research and development group was layed off. Some of the other small groups were transferred but we were just given notice.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Just be yourself and know the particulars in your resume. If you've done a particular research or development aspect, be able to explain it to them as if you were giving a research talk.
"Cordial but ineffective in several divisions."
Baxter International Review by Program Director in Round Lake, IL on
What do you like about working at Baxter International?
Generally cordial atmosphere
What don't you like about working at Baxter International?
Lack of accountability among Division staff executives, lack of experience or vision regarding excellence in operations and execution. Many Division execs seemed to be learning on the job while needing to hand out lessons. Not a professional management group in the three businesses I worked with.
What suggestions do you have for management?
Hold selves accountable for operations within various functions -- there was a sort of clannishness amongst the Division VPs that separated them from their functions. They were defensive about their functions without improving their performance. Take responsibility for function performance.
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
Go in eyes-open, ask about issues, turnover, causes

| Baxter (Round Lake, IL)is a great place to work for, but unfortunately in order to grow up there you have to do a lot of networking. It appears that credentials (college education) are important but relationship/friendship/networking overwhelm anything else. | 09.02.09 |

The room for growth is slim.
What suggestions do you have for management?
I would suggest that they improve in hiring industrious, experienced, and well rounded people like me and not just because they have a biotech, pharmaceutical or masters degree that they are knowlegeable. I believe experience is the best teacher not theories alone. Assessment of people should be fair and should be given to people who deserve it.

| Culture of fear cascaded down from Senior management, Field staff leaving after being scared off by the bullying nature of managers, narrow mindedness and a complete failure to listen to staff, unwilling to take on board views of colleagues, what more can I say, it could be a great job but all the enjoyment has been strangled from it and all who would like to enjoy it. | 08.23.11 |
