What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

I absolutely loved the culture. The people were positive, the company was growing at an unbelievable rate, and there was so much positive reinforcement to any and all effort to assist with the profitability of the company.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

I didn't like the fact that the company was tied to General Motors. When the economy began to fall, so did the borrowing power of GM. GMAC Residential Funding needed the ability to borrow large amounts of money and at a good rate. Over time this became exceedingly difficult and consequently the cause of a merger and an acquisiton. The merger of a much larger and less profitable company caused major upset and the results have not been very positive to date.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I wouldn't dream of making suggestions to the management of this company. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to decide whether to continue as a smaller entity, knowing that it would cause the loss of over 10,000 jobs or to merge and attempt to grow over time and save at least some of the jobs.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

No because the culture and nature of the business has changed considerably since I left in 2006.

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

Honestly, was the freedom to work at your capacity. Meaning, give it all you've got and the means to get the job done. When given the freedom to work at your best, to do your best without micro management makes your job easier. So actually, GMAC was Ditech.com ( I do not like GMAC). It was Ditech before GMAC gained control and that's when a lot of Ditech's employees lost our job in the end of 2008.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

GMAC was formerly known as Ditech.com. So i do not like GMAC. GMAC brutally laid off people without so much giving it a second thought. Many of us were with Ditech for at least 10 years, i was with the company for 7 years. Losing our jobs in the blink of an eye due to company merging and upper authority coldly made their decisions to let many of us go was not ethical. So GMAC left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Please try to be more understanding toward employees and do not abuse your power and authority as all your employees livelyhood is in your hands. When reviewing resumes, please do not turn away resumes that you feel lack experience you require. Everyone is entitled an opportunity and can be trained.

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

I have enjoyed my entire experience at GMAC-Semperian. The managers are all very knowledgeable and helpful. If an associate offers an opinion to help make the job more effecient, the managers listen and help get necessary changes made. I have worked hard at my job from the day I started, and my work and contributions have not gone unnoticed by the management team. While Semperian wants to always be best in class, and provide the best customer service to GMAC customers at all times, they also care about their employees' needs.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

After working here for two years, I feel that this job does not present enough of a challenge.

What suggestions do you have for management?

The site manager and the operations managers have been amazing to work for. My site manager is very straightforward and if a problem is presented to her, she is always prepared to fight for her employees until a solution is found.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Even with GMAC's financial difficulties in the past couple years, the employees that work hard and prove themselves to management are still rewarded.

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

The energy of everyone in the company! The determination, focus and teamwork to acheive the goal.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

That the company was purchased by a company that knew little about our business. GMAC had a niche market in the GM Family and GM Supplier clientelle. Cerberus saw no value in that and eliminated our department. The GM Family business was not a given and the company lost those clients that were the "cream of the crop" and was left with subprime customers - not an ideal situation in a declining economy!

What suggestions do you have for management?

While GMAC brought value to GM when they needed the cash the most, they should have used more care in the negotiation with a buyer so they could have insured success and value in the future. All of GMAC mortage retail offices nation wide are now closed because the immediate cash flow that was needed by GM few years ago.

What is the security of the position? How much has GMAC improved since the recent cutback? What data is available to confirm a turn around?

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

I didn't like a single moment. These people were terrible to work for and with. They took advantage of their workers in every way they possibly could.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

It is a rotten place to work. Every pay check was wrong. You have to fight for every penny. Compensation scchedules were constantly changed. Overtime was required but uncompensated. Twelve and fourteen hour days are the standard, so forget about family. The management lied and even physically abused their staffs. This is the worst place I have ever worked.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Start treating your people with respect. Completely change everything about the culture of greed that persists throughout the company.

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

Don't! Run, there are to many other companies out there who actually care about their employees. These people really stink!

Let ones unique talents shine through feed off others success. Stay away from fear as a mmain motivator, to more of you can do it , encouragement, success rconigition. it allows for more of a cognitive work place & I believe more of one wanting to set the bar for others to achieve. rather than producing for the fear ofhere job.

Be extremely goal oriented & be prepared do to whatever it takes ( no social life) to achive those goals, if you want to be a top producer.

At the time the mortgage industry was booming and so you made great friends and made great money. They worked you hard- but you were compensated well.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

i think sometimes people can not separate between personal and business. As an underwriter your job is to protect the company and Ditech at times was a lot more production oriented.

What suggestions do you have for management?

i think at the time i was at Ditech the culture was relaxing -- don't micromanage but as you keep people happy they will work very hard for you!

Just be ready to work long hours- but it's a stable company!

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

It was a new office for the California area. I enjoyed the experience of developing and marketing new business.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

The funding department was located in Florida which caused some concerns with funding time as well as the time difference. The Florida office was not correctly staffed to handle calls from the west coast.

What suggestions do you have for management?

I would have liked to seen more open lines of communication with the Sr. Management team, to address concerns and provide suggestions.

Yes, let them know you are familar with reports and how you can use them to manage your portfolio.

What do you like about working at Ally Financial?

When I was hired they were losing $7.5 million dollars per year. They were extremely supportive and helped me to implement initiative that eventually lead to a $6 million dollar gain in a depreciating market.

What don't you like about working at Ally Financial?

At the end of last year the company sold and then closed all of their branch offices. My only regret is that we had too little time to turn things around.

What suggestions do you have for management?

Three suggestions - 1) Recruit 2) Retain 3) Train and do each with excellence.

GMAC is a great company and offered great training opportunities.

The corporate rigidness made it sometimes difficult to maintain client relations. This business requires you to think outside the box.

What suggestions do you have for management?

GMAC had limited loan products and if you used a broker they would penalize you financially. The goal should be to satisfy your client and close the loan. A lot of my business comes from referral.
