Branch Operations Manager
in Orange, TX

"Capital One was a good place to work, but they were undergoing some growing pains and had just moved from a credit card company into commercial banking, so they were learning as they went."

What do you like about working at Capital One?

"At Capital One, I was really able to learn about the financial industry. I wrote loans and opened accounts but really I was able to solve customer problems. One of the greatest feelings was to be there for someone who did not know which way to turn, and I would be able to offer direction to that customer and then see it work out."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be honest and be committed to customer service. If you are not both of those things then just don't waste your time or the company's time."

What don't you like about working at Capital One?

"Capital One has no consistency. They changed policies by the day trying to solve problems. I am absolutely in favor of change because I believe if you stay the same you become stale. But Capital One seemed to change for the sake of changing. They would make a rule one month and the next month change back to the old rule. It was confusing to everyone and it really made the operational portion of my job difficult."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If I had a suggestion for the management of Capital One, I would say slow down and trust the people you are paying to make good decisions. Micromanagement is tough to pull off. If you are not comfortable with your team then you have the wrong people in place, or maybe there is something wrong with your perception of your team. Either way, slow down and take a long look and then make a decision."
