Job Seekers: Google Is More Attractive than Apple

By Ritika Trikha, CareerBliss Copywriter

Jobseekers have spoken, and Google has triumphed as the World’s Most Attractive Company. Google ranks No. 1 in both the business and engineering categories of the poll, leaving its longtime tech rival Apple in the dust at numbers 9 and 7, respectively. And it’s not the first time — Google has been taking the lead on this survey, conducted by branding firm Universum, for 3 consecutive years.

Positive impressions about Google held by surveyed job seekers match up with the opinions of those currently employed by Google. In other words: Job seekers find Google more appealing as an employer than Apple, and Google employees seem to agree.

CareerBliss data indicates that Google employees are, indeed, happier than people who work at Apple.

Google’s overall CareerBliss Rating* is a solid 4 out of 5, while Apple trails at 3.9.

According to Google employee reviews at CareerBliss, the company’s growth opportunity (CareerBliss Rating 4.5) and career advancement opportunity (CareerBliss Rating 4.3) are among the highest-ranked reasons why Google employees can’t stop smiling (Google’s lowest CareerBliss Ratings are 3.1 for compensation and 3.2 for benefits).

A common theme among several of the anonymous Google employee reviews is the “great people” and “great opportunities” at Google.

On the other hand, Apple employee reviews indicate that employees are happiest with benefits (CareerBliss Rating 3.9) and compensation (CareerBliss Rating 3.8). They are least happy with the job security (CareerBliss Rating 3.4) and career advancement CareerBliss Rating 3.6).

One review from an Apple tech support member said, “I didn’t think there was enough support from the leads or supervisors. Due to economy you didn’t know how long you would have the job.”

But, don’t fret, Apple.

Take these results as a lesson: To become more appealing as an employer, you must make it a priority to give employees opportunities to grow and advance as professionals.
