Ahtna Incorporated is named after the Ahtna tribe of Athabaskan people who historically reside in Alaska's Copper River and Cantwell regions. It was established in 1971 by the United States Congress' landmark Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Today, the firm is one of 13 such Alaska Native Regional Corporations, and it has grown to incorporate seven of the eight independent villages in the area, all of which are Federally recognized.
