A good rule of thumb: Send the resume and cover letter as soon as you can because timing is a top factor when it comes to job applications!
If you see a job application on a Friday afternoon, send it as soon as possible.
As long as you get your stellar resume and cover letter in before the deadline, you should have a fair shot.
One hiring manager’s perspective: “Who knows when they saw the job ad, maybe they found it last minute, so why should we penalize a potentially outstanding employee just because they sent it on the last day,” says Arber Beqiraj, cofounder and CEO of Opinionoto.
In most cases, employers want to close the position quickly.
And as for the best day to respond?
“As for the best day to respond to an ad, it's the day the ad appears because the employer is going to get scores, if not hundreds of resumes, that first day. And once she has enough, she'll stop reading. So if a candidate waits a day or two, they'll be out of luck,” says Bruce Hurwitz, Ph.D., executive recruiter and career counselor at Hurwitz Strategic Staffing, Ltd.
Still, don’t just throw spaghetti on the wall!
Make sure your resume and cover letter are tailored well to the position before you send it off!
