"The decision-making for emergency road service is made from a corporate office by executives who have no practical experience with the demands of providing totally satisfied service to our members. It leads to directives that are counter to the reality on the floor."

"They could reach out to the floor and get a sense of how it really works, as opposed to how they think it should work."

"Recognize that it is a call center, and the more comfortable your employees are, the better they perform."

"Be professional. It is a very conservative company. Dress professionally."

"There are not a lot of growth opportunities. It is very difficult to transfer to other departments."

"Challenge employees who have reached their full potential. Provide more training."

"The environment was fast-paced. I supervised a staff of 25 in a 24/7 production operation, and there were always issues that required immediate attention or action."

"Use the advice and counsel of the human resources consultant to obtain guidance on the internal culture works."

What don't you like about working at AAA?

"The staff I supervised was resistant to any form of changing their established practices. When I first arrived, all processors worked at a single station. I saw the need for operators to be cross-trained on all processing stations. After several months of resistance, many memos to upper management explaining the need for this course of action to improve the operation, and nine months for the cross-training period, it was finally completed. Now, whenever any staffer(s) go on vacation or one or more are out sick, we have multiple options for coverage at any particular work station."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Update the IS systems used by the administrative offices. Several of their internal systems are using antiquated platforms."

What do you like about working at AAA?

"I had 17 direct reports, and they went above and beyond for me to make it a high producing office."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Expect low pay if you are in management, and you probably will make more money as a travel agent."

What don't you like about working at AAA?

"They did not pay the management well, and the hours were very long, with no commission program for management."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Offer an upcapped commission program so managers could make more than those who reported to them."

"I like being able to work out on the roadside and being able to provide customers with service that puts a smile on their faces every time I was able to get their vehicle started without getting a tow truck involved."

"Be ready for very long days when it's snowing/raining. Be ready to drop what you are doing if called in for inclement weather."

"I dislike the way the roadside program was run. The manager of the fleet was a hard person to work with."

"Listen to what your employees need, especially if they are the ones out on the side of the roadway or the highway with faulty equipment."

"Be open and honest with the position you are applying for, and be ready to answer direct questions from your past and present work experiences."

"I believe there was a needed bridge of communication from executive level to management level."

"I believe management should be a little more demanding to take the lead on projects."

"Great place to work, tons of acquired skills, and great schedules."

"I like the reputation, skills, making your own hours, and a 40-hour solid work week + plenty of overtime. There are lots of really nice people in need of your assistance, and it is extremely rewarding work."

"If you are not goal-oriented and motivated to help members, don't apply. If you are scared to drive tow trucks, don't apply. If you get too anxious handling other people's vehicles, don't apply. Everyone else, I strongly urge you take ownership in this company."

What don't you like about working at AAA?

"Incidents are going to happen in this line of work. Try and keep them to an absolute minimum, because if you have more than 3 in an 18 month period, the boss will terminate your employment regardless of whether or not he likes having you around."

"Management was top-notch and on top of everything. Do your job and take care of your members, because you never know what kind of chances there are."

"I loved coaching the employees to have distinguished customer service skills and scores. I also enjoyed the team interaction."

"Give clear, direct answers during the interview and look professional."

What don't you like about working at AAA?

"Management was inconsistent between the supervisors. There was favoritism, last minute deadlines, and poor communication."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Monitor mid-level management, and have supervisor one-on-one meetings to really see how the department is being run."

"I would check their background, ask for references, and be punctual on the interviews."

"What I do not like is that they hired managers with no experience in the industry."

"AAA needs to hire experienced managers who can handle the shop issues."

"You need to make sure the drivers are happy, and try not to fight with them."

"I disliked the fact that the drivers would get mad and yell at us."

"Have the drivers try not to get so mad at the dispatchers."

"I like the positive atmosphere; friendly, reasonable supervisors; great benefits; and generous time off allowances."

"Don't apply for anything other than underwriting or claims if you have prior insurance experience and/or a college degree."

"Training is extremely piecemeal, resulting in agents hitting the floor, causing large amounts of difficulty and damage. The majority of work I do is correcting others' mistakes rather than truly servicing our customers."
