"I've worked at VA for nearly 15 years, in the areas of government contracting, real property, leasing, environmental law, and energy law. The work is constant, challenging, yet very rewarding. Serving Veterans is a great honor. I've worked with some of our nation's greatest leaders - folks with various backgrounds, accomplishments, and accolades within the public and private sectors. Learning and working with them has been invaluable."
"Worked here as a summer intern. Great opportunity."
"It was a rewarding experience. Contractors were treated very well, and allowed to receive valuable training and projects that were mutually rewarding."
"I started with the Cleveland VA in 2010 to work within a team and help improve the efficiency and productivity of the unit. We've been able to progress through 2 version/ implementations/ migrations and delivered a very good product to the clients within and external to the hospitals needs. The environments at the hospital are Vista (Oracle RDB) on a HP UNIX super dome, SQL server 2012, 2008, and some residual 2005 databases on windows 2008 R2 environments."
"Excellent review every year. I work hard every day that 's the reason I have a good review every year. For the past seven years I have been working at the VA, I never missed any time at work, even I have plenty of sick days. I don't abuse my sick days in case I need them some day."
"I am working a six month contract at the Dep. of VA so I do not receive benefits or my salary through them, but rather the recruiting firm I am hired through. My co-workers are excellent and very eager to help new people training and learning. The work flow could use some improvement but overall it's satisfactory. The chance may be there for me to go permanent but I'm not sure this is what I want in the long run. The parking arrangements are very difficult as the garage is not large enough."
"Good residency program. Well maintained."
"VA has been very good to me. However, the opportunity to invest in new challenges, technologies, and (most importantly) advanced analytics to drive business decisions has yet to be embraced. Command and control too often stifles innovation."
"I work in the Agency's OI&T Dept. and the total lack of professional training and capability of the average IT staff member is appalling. Rather than foster training of the staff all work is completed to the capabilities of the lowest common denominator. Many industry standard practices are simply not implemented because they are identified as to advance for the average IT staff member to understand yet allow support. Several first line supervisors are not even familiar with the OSI model or how it relates to the job functions of the staff they manage."
"I worked for James A Haley Veterans Hospital for two years. It was a great job to have for those two years."
"Working for the Federal Government was a wonderful experience."
"Pretty laid back environment."
"Great opportunity for interns to get exposure to a wide variety of GIS projects within the different VA departments."
"Very good company to work for."
